Philip founded Armstrong Solicitors in Newtownabbey in 2009. He specialises in residential property law and is recognised as a leading practitioner in landlord and tenant law for the private rented sector. In addition to overall supervision of our property department, Philip acts for a number of housing associations and letting agents at both local and national level, and is also legal counsel for Northern Ireland’s two largest tenancy deposit scheme administrators. He has been involved in volume conveyancing and volume remortgaging projects for many years and has been the driving force in quadrupling the size of the practice in only 7 years.
Philip has pioneered the use of social media to grow the firm’s profile, and has a large following on LinkedIn, where he has been posting weekly videos on a Friday for over 5 years about conveyancing, and running a High Street law firm in Northern Ireland. He is a passionate advocate for the importance of the High Street law firm at a time where small businesses are being hit by challenges with costs, recruitment, legal fees, and sustainability.
Philip is a member of Council of the Law Society of Northern Ireland, and current Chair of the Conveyancing and Property Committee. He is also a member of the Professional Liability Committee and Non-Contentious Business Committee.
With a particular interest in innovative technologies, Philip is the overall designer of our unique in-house conveyancing web app, which is at the heart of all of our residential property cases. This tool allows us to keep in touch with our clients and their estate agent and/or mortgage adviser, giving instant updates to everyone involved, and explaining each case step to our client in manageable and accessible case notifications.
Away from law, Philip is the past co-chair of the Belfast Titanic Society and is an accomplished presenter on a range of Titanic related topics. Don’t get him started! He has also played the organ (and latterly piano) from the age of 4 but never actually got round to learning how to read music....and has no intention of doing so.
